Movember: Growing Support for Men's Health
Posted on 23 October 2023
It’s that time of year when moustaches sprout, serving as a show of support for men's health. It's a movement that has come to be widely recognised for addressing important issues like men's mental health, suicide rates, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
Since its inception in 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men's health projects worldwide. The organisation challenges the status quo, shakes up men's health research, and transforms the way health services reach and support men.
Get involved
Explore the ways you can show your support:
Grow a Mo: Growing a moustache during November is a fun and easy way to show everyone you walk past that men's health matters to you. It's a conversation starter and a visual reminder that change is possible.
Mo-ve for Mental Health: This November, consider taking on the Mo-ve for Mental Health challenge. This involves walking or running 60km throughout the month, which symbolises the lives of the 60 men who commit suicide globally every hour.
Host a Mo-ment: If you're more of a social butterfly, you can get your friends, family, or colleagues involved in hosting a "Mo-ment".. Whether it's a charity run, a charity dinner, or even a simple get together, every effort counts in driving change.
But there are many other creative ways to show your support for Movember. The key is to be vocal and passionate about the importance of men's mental health. Share your commitment on social media, start conversations with friends and family, and encourage others to join the cause.
How your fundraising helps
Your fundraising efforts support critical initiatives that make a real difference in men's lives:
Ahead of the game: This initiative uses sports as a platform to teach young players, parents, and coaches how to talk about mental health. It encourages open conversations, reduces stigma, and provides vital support for young men.
Family man: A free, online parenting program designed with dads in mind. It uses evidence-based strategies to help men increase their confidence as parents. This results in less stressed parents and a calmer home environment, benefiting both fathers and their families.
True North: Men Like Me: This free online tool is designed to help men with prostate cancer understand what's normal after diagnosis and treatment. It provides crucial information, support, and a sense of community for those facing this challenging journey.
Nuts & Bolts: Sometimes, what men need most is clear, concise information. Nuts & Bolts is designed to provide just that. It helps men feel like they have access to reliable, straightforward information to ease uncertainty and equip them with what they need to feel calm and informed, especially when facing health issues.
Movember is more than just a month of facial hair growth; it's a movement that aims to change the face of men's health. By participating, you can help fund essential programs, raise awareness, and support the wellbeing of men around the world.
